Seoul Museum of History | 서울역사박물관

Through Jan 20, Seoul’s preeminent repository of Korean history will be hosting a special exhibit on the historic Jeongdong district and the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris. After Korea’s opening to the West at the end of the 19th century, Jeong-dong (a short walk from the museum itself) became Seoul’s Western legation quarter, and even today is home to many historic embassies, missionary schools, and churches.

Seoul Museum of History has an extensive permanent exhibit of art, relics, photos, and historical materials detailing Seoul’s development as a city, from the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910) to the present day. The smartly-designed museum was built on the grounds of old Gyeonghuigung Palace, the remains of which are found just behind the museum.
